Sergei Orel practices in the Trademark and Litigation Departments. He is involved in representing and counseling various companies in connection with their intellectual property portfolios, the protection of intellectual property rights, and the use of federal trademark registrations. He assists clients in selecting and defending trademarks and in obtaining protection for them, as well as maintaining trademarks after registration. Mr. Orel’s intellectual property attorney expertise consists of many years of legal experience in the aeras of US and International trademark prosecution, trademark maintenance and enforcement, trademark opposition, cancellation and litigation matters, and anti-counterfeiting matters; copyright application and copyright litigation matters; and domain name dispute resolution matters.
Mr. Orel represents brand owners that operate in a wide variety of industries, such as apparel, cosmetics, toy manufacturing, alcohol products, home electronics, personal portable electronics, automotive industry, among others.
In the Litigation Department, Mr. Orel handles litigation matters in the areas of trademark, trade secret, design patent, copyright, unfair competition, and trade dress matters, in federal district courts and before the United States Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
Mr. Orel is admitted to the bar of the State of New Jersey and to the federal U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, as well as to the US Court of Appeals for the 3rd and 2nd Circuits.
Mr. Orel has provided tireless and proactive representation to achieve favorable results for clients facing difficult outcomes both before the USPTO and in Federal and State Courts.
Prior to being a part of the Nolte Lackenbach Siegel team, he ran his own law practice, and was associated with the law firm of Simmons & Simmons (London, UK), as well as worked at the legal department of Philip Morris.
Mr. Orel holds a J.D. from Rutgers Law School – Newark, and a B.A. in Economics from Hunter College – CUNY, and a B.A. in French Language and Literature from the Kharkiv State University in Ukraine.
Mr. Orel is an active member of the Ukrainian-American Bar Association.
